State of Lord Edgecomb's claim & observations thereon, ca. 1766.

Document disputes Sir Richard Edgecomb's claim to possession of an eight thousand acre tract abutting Merrymeeting Bay, and appears from internal evidence to have been written about 1766. The original grant was given by Sir Ferdinando Gorges to Edgecomb in 1636. The grant extended four miles south from the present boundary between the towns of Richmond and Bowdoinham, Me. Companies represented include the Pejebscot Purchase Company (also known as the Proprietors of the Township of Brunswick).
